I provide Maths and Numeracy support for all courses covered in Scottish primary and secondary schools and for adults as required. More details of courses available in Scotland can be found on the Scottish Qualifications Authority SQA website and Education Scotland.
The programmes of study are outlined by the Curriculum for Excellence CfE which encourages a cross-curricular approach in the development and use of maths and numeracy skills. I provide support for students doing the National Qualifications 3/4/5: Applications of Mathematics, Higher Maths.
I provide a stimulating learning environment that encourages students to build up their confidence in Maths. In particular, some pupils have difficulty concentrating at school and have benefited from my one-to-one support for learning in terms of increased confidence and critical skills leading to satisfaction with their exam performance.
Teaching and learning methods employed are those that suit each pupil's learning styles. My students sometimes like to work in small groups. Resources used for active learning in maths include online and paper-based materials, textbooks such as Teejay, Heinemann and Maths in Action and past exam papers.
For instance I have worked successfully with children and young people with Attention Deficit disorder ADHD and/or specific learning difficulties Dyslexia and the Autistic spectrum disorder Asperger's syndrome.
